Description: This map layer shows areas designated as undeveloped coastal barriers in accordance with the Coastal Barrier Resources Act, which encourages conservation of hurricane-prone, biologically rich coastal barriers by restricting federal expenditures that encourage development. Coastal Barrier Resources System units (tan) are usually private lands, while Otherwise Protected Areas (brown) are typically owned by organizations for the purpose of wildlife refuge, sanctuary, recreation, and/or natural resource conservation.
Description: These data represent the extent of the nation's coastal zone, as defined by the individual states and territories under the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 (CZMA). The CZMA was established to preserve, protect, develop, and where possible, to restore or enhance the resources of the nation's coastal zone. The zone generally extends seaward to the boundary of the Submerged Lands Act. The zone extends inland from the shorelines only to the extent necessary to control shorelands that have a direct and significant impact on coastal waters. Lands held in trust by the Federal Government have been included in this boundary unless otherwise noted, as accurately representing these could be erroneous. State jurisdiction extends to 3nm, except for Texas, Puerto Rico and Florida's Gulf coast extends to 9nm. Great Lakes states have jurisdiction to the international boundary with Canada. CZMA applies in EEZ through federal consistency. This boundary is unofficial. For precise, regulatory boundaries, please contact the state or territorial coastal program office.

Name: Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument
Display Field: Site_Name
Type: Feature Layer
Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon
Description: This map layer shows the boundaries of the Northeast Canyons and Seamount Marine National Monument. This National Monument was designated on September 15, 2016 by President Obama. The monument includes two areas, the Canyon Unit and the Seamount Unit. The Canyon Unit covers Oceanographer, Gilbert, and Lydonia Canyons. The Seamount Unit covers Bear, Physalia, Retriever, and Mytilus Seamounts. The units cover a total of 4,900 square miles.

On February 16, 2024, NOAA Fisheries published a <a href="https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/02/16/2024-03247/magnuson-stevens-act-provisions-prohibition-of-commercial-fishing-in-the-northeast-canyons-and" target="_blank">notice in the Federal Register</a> to implement regulations for the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument. This measure defines the boundary coordinates of the Monument area, reflects Presidential Proclamation 10287’s prohibition on commercial fishing within the boundaries of the Monument in the Magnuson-Stevens Act prohibitions at § 600.725, and clarifies that commercial fishermen may transit through the Monument if fishing gear is stowed and not available for immediate use during passage through the Monument.

Name: OCS Oil and Gas Leasing Withdraw & Moratoria Areas - Atlantic Region
Display Field: AREA_NAME
Type: Feature Layer
Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon
Description: This map layer shows the areas under congressional or executive withdraw from leasing for oil, gas, or minerals within the US Outer Continental Shelf.
Description: This data represents geographic terms used within the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA or Act). The Act defines the United States outer continental shelf (OCS) as all submerged lands lying seaward of state submerged lands and waters (as defined in the Submerged Lands Act) which are under U.S. jurisdiction and control. Under the OCSLA, the Secretary of the Interior is responsible for the administration of mineral exploration and the development of the OCS. The OCSLA has been amended several times, most recently as a result of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. In addition, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 amended OCSLA Section 8 to give jurisdiction of alternate energy-related uses on the outer continental shelf to the Department of the Interior. When investigating geo-regulatory boundaries near the boundary edges, users should consult the most up-to-date applicable jurisdictional boundaries from all respective authoritative sources.

Description: This layer, derived from U.S. Department of Homeland Security data, provides information on the U.S. Coast Guard's (USCG) Districts. The Coast Guard is the principal federal agency responsible for maritime safety, security and environmental stewardship in U.S. ports and waterways. The USCG protects and defends more than 100,000 miles of U.S. coastline and inland waterways, and safeguards an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) encompassing 4.5 million square miles. There are 9 districts in total.

Description: The US Army Corps of Engineers has been regulating activities in the nation's waters since 1890. Until the 1960s the primary purpose of the regulatory program was to protect navigation. Since then, as a result of laws and court decisions, the program has been broadened so that it now considers the full public interest for both the protection and utilization of water resources. These boundaries represent USACE regulatory districts. Attribute information includes an address, telephone number and url for each district. Updated OCT 2018.
Description: This layer contains the US 200nm EEZ as well as adjacent international maritime boundaries, where the US EEZ would otherwise overlap another coastal State.

Description: The purpose of this layer is to provide the United States Coast Guard with a single map layer that includes the Coast Guard Sector Boundaries and Area of Responsibility. The Coast Guard Sectors are delineated in the description in the 33 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) for each Sector Boundary and Area of Responsibility where latitude and longitude coordinates, as well as county/state/national boundaries are included to describe the boundaries for each zone. In addition, whenever the Area of Responsibility boundary is over water, the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) shapefile is referenced for those occurrences.

Display Field: reviewingState
Type: Feature Layer
Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon
Description: These data represent state geographic location descriptions (GLDs). Section 307 of the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972, called the "federal consistency" provision, provides states with review authority of federal actions in areas outside of the state coastal zone, which they otherwise would not have, for activities that may affect a state's coastal uses or resources. Federal license or permit, and federal financial assistance activities that are listed in state coastal management programs for an accompanying GLD are subject to state review. All listings and GLDs must be approved by NOAA.
